Speeches
This week we presented our speeches.
I felt nervous and excited.
We had to use a clear voice, stand still, speak loudly, go at our own pace, look up at the crowd, use expressions and be confident Our speeches needed to include a rhetorical question and be persuasive.
My speech was about pitbulls. It needed to include a pepeha. Here is my speech
Tihei Mauri ora
Ko pepeha ki ahua
Ko Titirangi Te maunga
Ko Taruheru Te awa
Ko Horouta Te waka
Ko St Marys star of the sea Te marae
No Turanganui a kiwa ahau
Ko Hato Maria toku kura
Ko K.C. ahau
No reira, tena koutou, tena koutou, tena koutou katoa.
Pitbulls
Do you think pitbull are dangerous?
Some people say that pitbulls are the most dangerous dog but why? They are just normal dogs but most people don’t understand that they are harmless.
There are countries that banned pitbulls. Some of the countries are Brazil, Belgium, Canada, France, Finland, Denmark, Poland, Norway the U. S. and more.
Pitbulls are not inherently dangerous they only will become aggressive through the lack of exercise as well as lack of attention to health.
Some pitbulls were chosen bred for there fighting abilities. To me that is animal abuse. Now let's talk about pitbulls history. Pitbulls are the descendant of the original bull baiting dog. A dog that was bred that was to bite bulls, bears and other large animals around the face and head.
Then catching large animals was banned in the 1800’s. People turned it into dogs fighting against each other. That's why some people think that pitbulls are dangerous
To me they aren’t plus my Auntie,Uncle and godmother have pitbulls and I love them because they are super playful and kind.

Caged chickens
We have been writing about cage chickens. We have been debating if they should be caged or free.
I enjoyed writing it.
I found it hard to find facts about it.
Next time I would write more facts about it.
Caged chickens should be banned
I believe that caged chickens should be banned because they can't be a normal chicken.
They are too squished in the cages. The cage is the same as an A4 piece of paper.
In New Zealand 82% of chickens are caged up and 18% are not caged.
45000 chickens are in a sheds.
Plus they can not move around. They cant perch, fly and build nests. The chickens that are cage get rickets which means they don't get vitamin D and they get weak bones.

Mary MaKillop
Mary MacKillop
Today is Saint Mary MaKillop’s feast day. Mary MaKillop is the first saint in Australia. She was born on the 15th of January 1842 and died on the 8th of August 1909. She loved kids. She was a teacher. Her first job was as a clerk when she was 14. Then she worked as a governess looking after her cousins and teaching them. She became a saint in 1995 after a woman prayed to her and then her cancer disappeared. Then Pope Benedict the sixteenth recognized her as a saint.

Mix it up
We are learning about science experiments. I enjoyed doing them and I found it challenging to explain what happened.
Mix it up
Why do some ingredients seem to disappear when you mix them together? Why don’t others? A mixture is two substances that don't chemically combine and can be separated. If you put iron filings into sand and raro, you can remove the filing with a magnet. Then you can remove sand out of raro when you put water with the sand and raro. The raro will dissolve. Then get a filter paper and pour the mixture into the filter paper. The sand will stay inside of the filter paper. Next leave the raro in the sun and you will have raro crystals because the water evaporates.
